422 (who?)
1. apologize profusely to
the ones you were honest with,
the ones who believe in you,
the ones who never cared,
the boy who thought you were
worth it, the girl who stayed up
all night to hear you breakdown,
the doctors, the nurses, the stars,
your scars, your little brother
who told you he hoped your sad
would go away, yourself

2. fall in love with someone
who doesn’t understand you.
write poems about his eyes being
a lighthouse, and his hands
being sirens. tell him he is
your happiness, he makes you
better. tell him his scars are
beautiful, he is so breathtakingly
beautiful that it’s reasonable
you should cry; love him
infinitely, love him like they say
you need to love yourself

3. eat away emotions
you didn’t realize you had. eat
when you’re sad, eat when
you’re bored, eat when he forgets
to call. eat when you think
you’re the only person alive
in a dead universe, eat when
you don’t remember when you
were last happy; pretend
the emptiness is hunger

4. stop sleeping. develop
an unhealthy fear of
melatonin. avoid dreaming
at all costs, because
people will return who you
can’t see. lie awake wondering
what Canada looks like, where
the boy with sorry eyes went,
what song defines your life, what
ephemeral means, and what all
you must’ve done wrong
to deserve this.

5. lose yourself in the intricacies
of other people. Gabriel calls
whenever you feel blackest,
Nicole is believable when she says
she loves you, Roman is too innocent
for his own good. Lily laughs
like her head’s on straight,
Josh needed you because he didn’t
know you, Brent makes jokes
about breathing and gravity,
Mark thinks you’re really Jesus,
and everyone you know gets stoned
because they’re scared of living

6. intellectualize. you
are a chemical probability
born into the likelihood of
wishing not to be born. you
have a tendency towards
feeling alone, isolated, and
replicating relationships in which
the people you meet reaffirm
that belief. understand the
significance of your
insignificance, and separate
from the warmth of human

7. tell everyone you’re better
until you believe it, too.

This is not only extremely powerful, but incredibly realistic. The flow of the words, the ones you specifically picked to place just so- every part of this creates such an amazing piece of art with words that I find it hard to read without it creating and stirring up just the feelings it's talking about within myself. Beautiful, beautiful work- and thank you so much for sharing something that feels so personal.
